"Be the change you wish to see in the world."               ~Mahatma Ghandi

Service learning in my opinion is the best way to learn, through my service learning placement I learned more in 15 hours of service than I did in the whole class. As part of my Introduction to Social Work class I did service learning through the Friends of Foster Families program. I was assigned two teens a girl age 15 and a boy age 14, these children where relatively lucky in terms of the foster care system. They were placed together because they are cousins. I met with the teens once a week for two hours, I also brought them to campus to see a performance. Through this program I was able to learn much more about the foster care system and its implementations than if I would have been studying it from a book. I also was able to understand it from a person's perspective which is very difficult when reading textbooks about facts.
