"Lectures put participants in a position of sustained, passive listening. Learning, unfortunately is not an automatic consequence of pouring information into another person's head. It requires the person's own mental processing. Therefore, lecturing by itself will never lead to real learning." ~ Dr. Mel Silberman
The internship completed through my Social Work Minor was through the Save Them Now Program, which helps adult males coming out prison succeed in re-entering society. Utilizing one of the great opportunities at MCLA I was able to create my own internship at this program which is in my hometown. My faculty supervisor Dr. Myles Whitney traveled down for a field visit and we corresponded once per week through my journals. I had on site supervision from the program's director Dr. Mat Jecker Byrne. Under the guidance of both supervisors I was able to learn how non-for-profit organizations work, as well as actually run a few writing to heal workshops.
