Standard D, Indicator 5: Collaborates with families, recognizing the significance of native language and culture to create and implement strategies for supporting student learning and development both at home and at school.

Throughout the semester I have communicated with families via e-mail, telephone calls, letters, progress reports, and meetings after school. For students with individual education programs and 504 plans, I have taken part in team meetings with students, parents, guidance counselors, and academic specialists to evaluate student academic progress.

When necessary, I have worked with families to provide specific accomodations in the classroom for their student(s). For example, students recently had a 2-3 minute oral presentation where they were required to discuss their career research report; however, a parent notified me the morning of the presentation that their student was physically and emotionally ill from the anticipatory stress of this presentation. I worked with the parent and the student to provide accomodations to make this student feel more comfortable. Rather than having the student present in front of the class, the student had the opportunity to present their project to me and one of their close friends at another point during the day.
