Leadership

Individual Enrichment Summer Session
Staff photo middle, right.

Beginning in the Summer of 2011, I served as an Academic Tutor Counselor (ATC) for Writing for College under the Individual Enrichment Summer Session. During this program, I worked closely with a faculty member to teach writing style and mechanics to incoming first year students. The position allowed me to gain a passion for teaching I had never felt before and also placed me in a position of leadership that had been, and still is, unparalleled in my life. I look forward to working with a new group of students during Summer 2013!

B-GLAD (Bisexuals, Gays, and Lesbians Making A Difference)

From the Fall of 2011 until Spring 2013, I served as the Treasurer for B-GLAD, MCLA's queer student union. In this position, I was responsible for obtaining funding for various events, performers, and lectures we held on campus, with the most notable being the annual Drag Dance, which seeks to encourage attendees to break gender norms and truly express themselves freely.

Peer Advising

As a Peer Advisor for the 2011-2012 school year, I serve as a mentor to a group of twelve first year and transfer students, providing them with a resource to voice questions about campus. Additionally, I host academic and social programs in conjunction with other Advisors to get our students more involved on campus. For the Fall 2011 semester, I worked as an Academic Resource Assistant under the Peer Advising program, which directly connected me to a First Year Experience (FYE) class and allowed me to mentor these students in areas geared specifically for first year students, including the Soledad O'Brien lecture and First Year Reading.

ePortfolio Fellow
As an ePorfolio Fellow, I am charged with maintaining a complete, regularly updated ePortfolio. I serve as a conduit for other students wishing to create or update their own portfolios. This position has allowed me to hone my own portfolio for future use in both the job and graduate school market while allowing me to connect to others on campus in an entirely new and fresh way.
