The Write Stuff program is writing and college access program serving local 5th-7th grade students.  The youth travel by bus to the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) campus and team up with Write Stuff college student mentors. During the program the youth will get an inside peek at a campus activity, class, rehearsal, or club, or hear about a college program from a student or faculty speaker. These activities then serve as inspiration for a lively period of guided creative writing exercises with the youth working alongside their MCLA mentors. The Write Stuff mentors offer reinforcement, and writing and skill-building tips while developing positive relationships between themselves and the younger students. Writing will often be shared with each other by reading aloud in pairs or with the entire group. A culminating activity, such as a public reading or publication of the students’ work, will top off the spring session. To learn more contact Christopher Hantman or Miles Thomas Moore on first class email.

What people are saying:

“The Write Stuff serves two invaluable roles; it has proven to improve the writing, reading and overall literacy of our students, but maybe more powerfully it has provided essential exposure  about college, college life, career exploration to our students who most of them do not receive that in their home life.”- Noella Carlow, Brayton Elementary After School Program Coordinator

"The Write Stuff program taught the students the value of creative writing through the implementation of innovative prompts and ideas in the classroom. My presence as a student helper allowed the students to have individualized study time and help on their pieces, which really made a big difference."- Jen Thomas (MCLA student volunteer)
