About Me

Hi!

Greetings my friends, I thank you for taking the time to learn a little about me and the stories I will be sharing with you. I am from Chechnya, a country not a lot people are aware of. For many years, my country has fought for freedom and independence. Yet to this day, my people have not seen suitable freedom. For six miserable years, I have strived to survive in a country that was being ripped apart by hostility and brutality by the Russian government. Coming from a large family, my parents struggled to make a living for us in those harsh times. I constantly wondered if I was ever going to see some sort of light, instead of the dark, Smokey clouds that filled the sky. I was never aware of other countries existing. I believed my country was the only place in the world that was being punished for things we never did. I never really knew the reason behind the conflict. But as I learned to adapt as time went by, I started to figure out things that I never understood before. I cannot say I had a childhood because I never did. I never believed I would be in the position that I am in right now, writing to you about my personal experiences. Most people believe it is just another war story, but is it really just another war story? Ask that question to yourself. Envision yourself in my situation and try to walk in my shoes. Have you ever seen what I have seen, or felt what I felt? It has never occurred to me that I would be alive here today. But I am happy to say that I am.

I never had a proper education while living in Chechnya. It has been difficult for me to obtain a proper education. Things were not safe and children were kept home for safety. I have always wanted the same thing that everyone else yearned for, and it was to go to school. Over the years, this transition has never been easy for me and my family. I see my parents struggle even to this day, and at times, I wish that I could do something. Knowing that I cannot, demolishes my heart into pieces. My parents do not have the health that they once had; time has won its victory.

Today, I find myself in a country full of opportunities, a country that took me in as one of their own and gave me the freedom. I moved to the U.S in the 2004 from Serbia. Before Serbia, I lived in Turkey for a couple of months. My family and I didn’t think Turkey was the right fit, so we moved to Serbia, where I spent two and a half years. We moved to the U.S in 2004 and ever since then I’ve lived in the U.S. I Started school late due to my broken English, but learning the language was not a problem. I got to high school; and I had an awesome time meeting new individuals with many different backgrounds, cultures and religions. I had the best teachers who taught me a lot and have pushed me beyond my limits. Today, I have successfully graduated from high school and received my diploma, and now I am on my way to obtaining my college degree, here at MCLA. Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts has accepted me to be part of their community and has given me the opportunity to get an education.  I am not the smartest, but I have enough knowledge to be successful. I have completed the Individual Enrichment summer session, a summer program that further prepares students for the upcoming fall. I had an amazing time with the IESS staff and students. Every person at IESS made me a better person and pushed me when times got hard. I am happy to say that I will be coming back in the fall, where I will complete my four years, majoring in Biology with a concentration in pre-physical therapy.
